Fight Club: A Novel

Fight Club: A Novel - I found the book more disturbing than the movie, although I'm not sure if the reason is last time I saw the movie was high school. What is interesting to me, is the difference in the endings. In the movie we see the narrator and Marla going out in a blaze of glory as the world topples around them. The novel ends with the narrator in an institution for the criminally insane, with Project Mayhem members still around him. It's the fact they still go along, they still believe, that disturbs me. It's a reflection of the idols we build, that we believe to be infallible no matter what. And that ending, is what makes the book better than the movie in my opinion.

Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1)

Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1) - Orson Scott Card A brilliant novel. Hollywood is going to destroy it.

On the Road

On the Road - Jack Kerouac Yup, that was a book. It's a character study more than a story, and just wasn't my thing.

How Geek Girls Will Rule the World

How Geek Girls Will Rule the World - Jennifer Thorpe-Moscon Disclaimer: I'm one of the girls interviewed, so take that for what it's worth. The most amazing thing about this book was how eye-opening it was for some of the women in my family. This isn't a book they'd normally read, but since I was in it they did. And as they read through the stories the women featured in the book shared, I started getting messages about how they had no idea that sexism still existed in my world. While this is a great book for the up-and-coming generation to see that they don't have to put their dreams to bed, it's also a great book for older generations who thought the battle was over.

A Visit from the Goon Squad

A Visit from the Goon Squad - Tries entirely too hard.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - Stieg Larsson Just moved a bit slow for me. Maybe I'll tackle the graphic novel...

Kill Decision

Kill Decision - I'm not really into military fiction, but I gave this a try because I love Daemon and Freedom(tm) so much. Turns out, still don't like military fiction.

Hamlet's BlackBerry: A Practical Philosophy for Building a Good Life in the Digital Age

Hamlet's BlackBerry: A Practical Philosophy for Building a Good Life in the Digital Age - William Powers Nothing really groundbreaking here.

Spiderwork (Apocalypto, #2)

Spiderwork (Apocalypto, #2) - L.K. Rigel All about women's worth connected to having babies. I'll pass.

Mastering Mountain Bike Skills

Mastering Mountain Bike Skills - Brian Lopes, Lee McCormack Good for starting out. Nothing compares to being on the bike, but it gives you some good tips of things to be aware of.

The New Kings of Nonfiction

The New Kings of Nonfiction - Ira Glass, Mark Bowden, Bill Buford, Malcolm Gladwell, Jack Hitt, Chuck Klosterman, James McManus, Susan Orlean, Michael Pollan, Lee Sandlin, Dan Savage, Coco Henson Scales, David Foster Wallace, Lawrence Weschler It's like This American Life in written form.

Talking to Girls About Duran Duran: One Young Man's Quest for True Love and a Cooler Haircut

Talking to Girls About Duran Duran: One Young Man's Quest for True Love and a Cooler Haircut - Rob Sheffield Not as good as Love is a Mixtape, but very enjoyable none the less.

Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1)

Fifty Shades of Grey - E.L. James This was a mistake.
